Your Work Floor Community
Strong brand communities don’t only start with customers, they begin with employees. Store staff are often a brand’s most authentic ambassadors, and their engagement directly influences the customer experience.

Communities start with your customers wanting to be a part of your community, right? Absolutely. But before you work on your brand community, also look into your work floor. Don’t miss out on your biggest supporters, brand ambassadors and examples to lead, right under your nose. Your hardworking staff.
The last time I went to a brick and mortar store, it was chaos. During the holiday season it’s hard not to feel bad for those working in this festive war zone. For shoppers it’s “getting Christmas presents”; for the people working the floor it’s survival. So if they don’t enjoy working for your brand, it’s going to show in their service during hard times. But it’s not just during the heavy days. It’s also the slow days where you see bored and uninterested faces behind your counters, where there is a lack of spark. And where there is a lack of engagement in your brand ambassadors, the service is going to suffer. Why would a customer care about your brand and store when your own employees don’t feel like they belong or care at all?
“The eyes, Chico, they never lie”, a famous one-liner from Scarface, popped into my head. In my previous life, and I have had many roles so far, I was in charge of hiring for New Black. I worked within H&O (Human and Organisation) and was responsible for Talent Acquisition. My focus was bringing new people in, interviewing for open roles and positions, and most importantly, finding the right fit.
